History
Huntington Schools Federal Credit Union was begun in the
early 1960s when teachers at Huntington High School joined
together to provide savings and loan services to others in
the school. The group received a Federal Credit Union
Charter in 1963. When school consolidation occurred in 1966,
all Huntington County public schools and their employees
were brought under the umbrella of the HSFCU.
Within a few years, Huntington
University and Huntington
Memorial Hospital (now Parkview Huntington) employees were
invited to join the Credit Union. Subsequently, Pathfinder
employees as well as employees of private medical and dental
offices in Huntington County were included, as well as other
private school employees.
In the early years of the Credit Union, operations were
conducted without a formal office. In 1975 property at
621 Cherry Street was purchased, and the present structure
erected to provide improved services. An upper level
expansion to the original structure, a drive-thru window and
a 24-hr ATM have been added since the initial building was
completed. Online banking became available at the Virtual
Branch in 2008.
